Name: Nancy Lien
Major: Public Relations
Internship: Consumer Intern at Cohn&Wolfe (Austin, TX)
What drew you to this internship?
Cohn&Wolfe is a world-class global agency and I knew I would get great, hands-on experience there with global and national brands. Their mantra is “dig deeper, imagine more,” which aligns with my passion of keeping a child-like curiosity in my profession. Additionally, Cohn&Wolfe is one of the few global agencies that offer undergrad internships. I was proud to be on the team when we won several Best Agency awards, including the Holmes Report “Large PR Agency of the Year.”
What do you like the most about your internship?
Being so hands-on and totally ingrained in the accounts that were assigned to me. I love the teams I work with and my diverse workload. I have a great mix of traditional PR work as well as work in the digital space. Since I’m on three accounts, I get to work with just about everyone in the office.
What have you learned from your internship so far?
Be proactive. Your colleagues will notice it. And remember that no task is too small to give it your best effort. Even if it’s just proofreading, being thorough and having a can-do attitude will get you noticed.
Any advice for people looking for an internship?
Start early. Make a list. Go for the ones you think are too big for you. If you don’t get it, at least they’ll remember you for when you are ready. I never thought I’d get an internship at a large agency like Cohn&Wolfe!
